After two years of leading the lgbogbo Youth Coalition (lYC), with distinction and with zero blemish, Lion Kazeem O. Ogunmuyiwa, the immediate past President, Igbogbo Youth Coalition (IYC) has not only handed over the baton of leadership to a worthy successor, after a successful election, he has also proudly presented his account of stewardship to the Igbogbo community.
The presentation was done at the inauguration of the new executive council led by Dr. Adeleke Dankuwo at the De Shokis Hotel, Igbogbo, on Saturday.
At the well – attended event which was witnessed by the Adeboruwa of Igbogbo, His Royal Majesty, Oba Semiudeen Kasali, Chairman, Igbogbo/Bayeku Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Builder Sesan Daini and other eminent personalities, were also youths of Igbogbo and other communities.
While appreciating IYC stakeholders for the support, the outgone lYC president listed educational initiative, community engagements, entrepreneurial and business engagements for youths and donation of an ICT centre among others as achievements recorded by his administration since it was inaugurated October 3rd, 2022.
“I stand before you all to express my utmost gratitude as a result of your outstanding support and unprecedented commitment since the beginning of the administration of this outgoing executive council. Your support for me and my executive team ensured the sustainability of IYC.
“The support I got from you all resulted in some significant achievements that we were able to record and our lofty contributions to the growth and development of our dear Igbogbo kingdom. Service to Igbogbo kingdom is something I will never take for granted, hence, I sincerely appreciate everyone for standing firm with my administration.
“As I welcome everyone to this important event, it is my pleasure to present the administrative report highlighting the key activities and achievements of our coalition under my stewardship and leadership.
“Our administration was officially inaugurated on October 3rd, 2022 , marking the beginning of our journey to contributing to the progress of the Igbogbo community, particularly through youth engagement and leadership development. Generally, we dedicated ourselves to promoting the welfare and development of our members and the broader Igbogbo community”, he said.
Listing areas that he has impacted on youths and Igbogbo generally, Lion Ogunmuyiwa said that his administration has specifically recorded success in the following areas:
“Health and Well-Being: Online Health Talk on Depression and Hypertension; Date: October 22nd, 2022: We organized an online lecture, focusing on raising awareness about Depression and Hypertension, key health issues affecting our community, to promote mental and physical well-being.
“Education and Youth Empowerment: Career Talk Initiative; Date: November 2022: In collaboration with the Lagos State Mass Agency for Education and the Nigeria Union of Teachers, we conducted career talks across Senior Secondary Schools in Igbogbo Kingdom. This initiative aimed at guiding students in making informed career choices and inspire them towards academic and professional excellence. It was greatly impactful for the students. School administrators could not hide their joy for visiting their school environments.
“Participation in the 4th Education Stakeholders Summit; Date: December 1st, 2022; We attended the 4th Education Stakeholders Summit organized by the Ikorodu Division Human Resources Development, contributing to key discussions on shaping the future of education within our division”, he said.
Other achievements are:
“Community Engagement and Entertainment: IYC Fun Blast; Date: December 24th, 2022: The IYC Fun Blast, held at the Adeboruwa Palace, provided a day of fun, relaxation, and bonding for our members, fostering unity and camaraderie within the coalition. It was a huge success.
“Election Awareness Campaign; Date: February 2023: We launched a campaign to raise awareness about the importance of participating in the 2023 general elections, encouraging citizens to exercise their voting rights and contribute to the nation’s democratic process.
“Entrepreneurship and Business Development: Online Program on Business Growth: Date: March 16th, 2023: We hosted an online session titled, “Business Growth and Engagement: Positioning Business for Visibility and Growth.” This initiative aimed to equip young entrepreneurs with the necessary tools to enhance their business visibility and achieve sustainable growth.
“Press Conference on the ‘Bad State of Physical Infrastructures in Igbogbo’; Date: June, 2023. We organized a press conference to call the attention of the governments at state and local levels to the poor state of infrastructure in the community; notably the major roads (Bola Ahmed Tinubu Way to Igbe to Ginti, Obafemi Awolowo Way to Baiyeku), and Igbogbo Sports Stadium”.
Within the two years, the immediate past IYC President also stated that his administration organized career talk, engaged in clean up of the Adeboruwa palace and community engagement among others.
“Annual Career Talk; Date: September 14th – 21st, 2023: Our Annual Career Talk involved interactive sessions with professionals from diverse fields, providing public secondary school students in Igbogbo and its environs, with guidance on various career paths.
“Environmental Sustainability: Take Up Cleaning of Adeboruwa Palace; Date: October 2nd, 2023: In collaboration with Menzzo Cleaning Agency, we organized a clean-up of Adeboruwa Palace, contributing to maintaining a clean and healthy environment in the community.
“Donation of Recycle Bin for Plastic Collection; Date: October 21st, 2023: In partnership with Planet Savers Global, we donated a recycling bin for plastic collection to the Adeboruwa Palace, supporting efforts to reduce plastic waste and promote environmental sustainability.
“Community Development: Donation of Public Address System to the Igbogbo Passport Office; Date: Dec. 15th, 2023; We donated a Public Address System to the Passport Office in Igbogbo, facilitating better communication and service delivery within the office”.
Lion Ogunmuyiwa also listed review of the IYC constitution, registration with the CAC and donation of ICT Centre to a school and other laudable impacts as also part of his administration’s achievements.
“Review of The Constitution; Date: January, 2024: As a result of the importance of inclusiveness, embracing new ideas, and developmental scopes, the constitution review committee gave us a new version of the IYC constitution.
“Review of Annual Due; Date: April/October, 2024: Sincerity of purpose made members of the coalition to have genuine reason for the need to increase the annual due from one thousand naira to two thousand naira at the April 2024 congress, and subsequently upgraded at the October 2024 congress to a minimum of five thousand naira for the working class category, while the non-employed members, and students category promised to pay a minimum of three thousand naira only, starting from the first day of the incoming administration.
“Donation of ICT Center to U.A.M.C. Eleja Primary School: Date: September 26th, 2024: We donated an Information and Communication Technology Center equipped with half a dozen systems to U.A.M.C. Eleja Primary School, Igbogbo. The gesture aimed to boost digital literacy and empowers students with essential technological skills. We know that the contribution of ICT in this time and age is key hence this gesture of ours is widely acknowledged.
“CAC Registration: For a long time, the coalition could not complete our registration at the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) due to name issues. We have now done the review and scaled through with the CAC. Further details will be passed to the incoming executives.
“Letters to Authorities: We have written letters to relevant authorities to advocate for the growth and development of Igbogbo, particularly focusing on initiatives that benefit the youths and improve the community’s infrastructure.
“Rehabilitation of Road Infrastructure: In collaboration with the Lagos State Public Works, we facilitated the repair of damaged portions of Oliwo Amoju Street, Olayinka Street, and Solawon Street”.
The outgone IYC President also said that his administration has designed a template for the first Igbogbo Youth Summit, and urged the new administration to ensure that it is achieved.
“My administration tried to organise the maiden edition of Youth Summit in Igbogbo kingdom. However, we could not execute this laudable programme due to financial constraint, but the design is on ground. I urge the incoming administration to push forward on the youths summit from where we stopped.
“Our administration has consistently worked towards fulfilling our commitment to the development of Igbogbo and its youths. We are proud of the strides made so far and remain dedicated to continuing these efforts to create a brighter future for our community”, he said.
